"Weighing" your horse without a scale
stacey |
This great video from Nutrena Feeds' Abby Keegan shows you how to determine the weight of your horse without a scale. They believe this simple mathematical formula is more accurate than a traditional horse weight tape. By taking two body measurements (heart girth and body length from point of shoulder to point of buttock) and using the formula, you can use this estimation to help determine how much to feed, how much dewormer to use, what size winter blanket you need, and many other things. The formula is heart girth x heart girth x length divided by 330 for grown horses or divided by 301 for yearlings.
